I’m a relatively new officer, only 2 weeks into the FTO program. I think it was last Monday, I stopped the third car I’ve ever stopped in my career. The lady was driving 53 in a 35mph zone. She was cool, cooperative, no problem. Here’s the funny part, part 1: As I reached for her insurance card she asks, “Are you shaking? Don’t worry, everything’s okay.” I replied with, “No, I’m fine. Sit tight, I’ll be back in a minute.”
Obviously she got a ticket. Anyway, here comes part two. She had me pegged as a new guy so she was asking me TONS of questions, about court, getting the ticket fixed, etc, etc. Finally, she signs the ticket and as I tell her to drive safely and start to walk away she says to me, “Is this your first ticket? ‘Cause if so you did a good job!” I replied with, “No, I’ve had several now.”
I walked back to my car and told my FTO and he busted up laughing!! I don’t think I’ll ever live that one down (because he LOVES to tell the story) so I might as well just keep laughing at myself.
Yeah, I was shaking I think, but not because I was nervous or scared, just pumped up and it was my first car stop in about a week.
